Double Bass / Cello / Guitar Instructor
Filip Stasiak specializes in double and electric bass, cello, as well as classical and electric guitar. He holds a Diploma in Chamber Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Master’s degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University in Detroit (majoring in double bass performance with a minor in classical guitar). In addition to his university training, Filip has spent multiple summers at the Orford Arts Centre studying with world-renowned double bass virtuoso Joel Quarrington.
As a performer, Filip is currently a member of the Niagara Symphony, Principal Bass for the Peterborough Symphony, and works as a freelance player with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and music theatre productions throughout Ontario. Notable performances have included work as a supporting musician for groups including Evanescence, The Barenaked Ladies, Jim Cuddy, Sarah Brightman, and many other award-winning artists.
As an educator, Filip maintains a large private studio in London, Ontario and has spent eight years as a double bass instructor in the Music Education Department at Western University. Filip is happy to be returning to the Chatham Music Academy for the 2024-2025 season and looks forward to working with new students from the area.
