Brass Instructor

Veronika Redfern completed her Honours Comprehensive Bachelor of Music degree with a focus in Music Education at Wilfrid Laurier University in June 2001 from the horn studio of Nina Brickman.

 

Veronika has also had the privilege of studying with Christopher Gongos and taking lessons from Daniel Moses and Ron George. In addition to participating in masterclasses conducted by Alain Trudel and James Sommerville, Olivia Esther and Jessica Brookes, she has also attended horn masterclasses by Joan Watson and Gail Williams, amongst others.

 

After graduating from Laurier, Veronika attended Althouse College at Western University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Education degree, with a focus on instrumental music. Upon commencement, she received the Don Wright Scholarship in Instrumental Music, which is awarded to a student who has demonstrated a talent and achievement in the field of music education. She spent the next two years teaching music in high schools in England before returning to Chatham-Kent. Since then, she has taught in Chatham-Kent and taken additional qualifications, allowing her to teach all ages.

 

Veronika enjoys teaching all brass instruments. In the past, she has worked as a low brass instructor at Borden Cadet Camp and senior trumpet instructor at ACSTC Blackdown. At HMCS Ontario, she ran the senior band program, acted as the standards officer and was the recipient of awards and scholarships. She has formerly been the Band Officer of both the RCSCC Wallaceburg and RCSCC Warspite Drum and Bugle Bands. She has also had the pleasure of running brass masterclasses and assisting with band clinics across the province.

 

She is an accomplished hornist, playing in orchestras, pit orchestras and bands in both Canada and the UK. Veronika currently plays first horn with the Chatham Concert Band as well as the Occasional Five Plus One Brass Sextet. She also plays in the pit as needed for Theatre Kent. Veronika has also been a featured soloist with the Chatham Concert Band and at St. Andrew’s United Church, amongst others.

 

Veronika currently teaches music at Chatham Kent Secondary School, where she is Music Director for the school’s musicals and conducts both the Junior and Jazz bands. Ensembles which she directed were awarded Gold medals during the 2016 Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival.
